ASUS is looking for leadership of the mobile computing space at Computex on Monday with the launch of smartphone-tablet device the Padfone, as well as several other machines.
With a name and even a logo font which will surely encourage Apple lawyers to do what they do best, the Padfone is, as yet, a shop model, if what the firm showed off at its pre-Compuex press conference has to be believed.
As such, there's not much to go on from Asus other than the firm hopes to release it ‘soon', the device(s) are set to be powered by the latest version of Android, and the screens are about 10 and 4 inches respectively.
The firm also used its pre-show press conference to launch the oh-so-sleek Eee PC X101 netbook, which weighs in at an anorexic 950g and is just 17.6mm at its thickest point.
Interestingly for those who can't decide, the (starting at) $199 notebook truly can be all things to all men - as long as they aren't Android fans - as it comes in MeeGo Linux, Windows, HDD or SDD flavours.
Also announced were a slinky new UX Series with brushed metal and Intel second generation Core chips, some more Bang & Olufsen designed N-Series machines with some serious sounds, and the Eee Pad MeMO has been given 3D functionality, presumably like the sister of an ugly bride at a wedding.
